Top 3 Most Recent NBA Draft BUSTS!
By: Weston Swift
It seems like every year the NBA draft classes get labeled as weak, and because of this teams have been selling off there draft capital like there a stock that has capped out. With this trend teams have started giving up on young players very early, without even giving them a true shot to reach the potential that got them drafted in the first place. The term "bust" is thrown out now a couple times a year, but a bust to me is someone who we truly thought were going to be great, and just couldn't make it in the league due to injury or performance. Players like Josh Jackson picked at 4 who still contribute off the bench don't count.
1) Greg Oden
You have to feel for the Portland Trailblazers, they will forever been known as the franchise who passed on MJ and now they passed on KD as well, for another big man none the less. Also, when they did get it right with Brandon Roy injuries took him right out of the league before he even got to his prime. Now, how do they watch Kevin Durant at Texas lead the country in scoring and pass on him? That my friends is a question for the ages. Though there were some signs, I mean he couldn't even put up 185 once at the combine, he look like he might break a bone just getting out of bed, and both his legs combined were.t bigger than Oden's bicep. Counter Argument Oden's legs were different lengths, he already showed signs of injury and drafting 7 footers with feet problems is the ultimate sin in the NBA.
2) Darko Milicic
I could've just used his first name and the average NBA fan would just cringe. Darko Milicic was thought to be this missing super star the city of Detroit had been missing since The bad boy Pistons in the 80's. The funny thing is The Pistons were a title contender that year, and the bad pick of Darko was elevated so much more because they were playing on National TV every other game. Despite Darko the Pistons went on to upset the Lakers and win the title. What makes things funnier is Melo, D-Wade and Chris Bosh were all drafted right behind him.
